About the Role

We’re seeking a motivated Heritage Consultant – Anthropologist to join our growing team.

This role offers the opportunity to work across Western Australia on a diverse range of Aboriginal cultural heritage projects, combining office-based project management with ethnographic surveys, cultural values assessments, reporting and stakeholder engagement.

You’ll work closely with Traditional Owners, clients and multidisciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality heritage outcomes while building your skills and experience in a supportive and collaborative environment.

ALS can assist with temporary accommodation in Busselton and surrounding areas where required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct ethnographic surveys and cultural values assessments across a range of environments.
  • Record and document Aboriginal cultural values and heritage information.
  • Manage and maintain accurate field data and project records.
  • Assist with project coordination and field logistics.
  • Prepare high-quality reports within project timeframes.
  • Build and maintain respectful relationships with Traditional Owners, clients and stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Ensure field activities comply with ALS policies, procedures and heritage legislation.

Essential Criteria

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • An undergraduate degree in Anthropology or a related discipline.
  • Experience undertaking ethnographic fieldwork, preferably within Aboriginal cultural heritage.
  • Knowledge of relevant State and Commonwealth heritage legislation.
  • A current C-Class Driver’s Licence.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • A current CV, including at least two professional referees.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working within the South West of Western Australia.
  • Experience undertaking Cultural Values Assessments or similar heritage assessments.
