Lead and support archaeological field surveys, site identification and recording, field data management and reporting for Aboriginal cultural heritage projects across Western Australia.
About the Role
We’re seeking a motivated Heritage Consultant – Archaeologist to join our growing team.
This role offers the opportunity to work across Western Australia on a diverse range of Aboriginal cultural heritage projects, combining office-based project management with field surveys, archaeological site recording, reporting and stakeholder engagement.
You’ll work closely with Traditional Owners, clients and multidisciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality heritage outcomes while building your skills and experience in a supportive and collaborative environment.
ALS can assist with temporary accommodation in Busselton and surrounding areas where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct archaeological surveys and assessments across a range of environments.
- Identify, record and assess Aboriginal heritage places and cultural values.
- Manage and maintain accurate field data and project records.
- Assist with project coordination and field logistics.
- Prepare high-quality reports within project timeframes.
- Build and maintain respectful relationships with Traditional Owners, clients and stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Ensure field activities comply with ALS policies, procedures and heritage legislation.
Essential Criteria
To be considered for this role, you will have:
- An undergraduate degree in Archaeology.
- Experience undertaking archaeological fieldwork, preferably within Aboriginal cultural heritage.
- Knowledge of relevant State and Commonwealth heritage legislation.
- A current C-Class Driver’s Licence.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- A current CV, including at least two professional referees.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working within the south-west of Western Australia.
- Experience applying environmental management principles to Aboriginal cultural heritage projects.
